Introduction

Hey everybody,

My Name is Grace and I recently graduated from University of Guelph-Humber. I took the Media Studies program and specialized in Public Relations. Finishing high school I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I was looking through programs from different universities, seeing what stood out to me. I always loved reading and writing, sharing my story through my social channels and in general was just interested about different aspects of the media, past, present and future. So I applied to Guelph-Humber and that’s where it all began. Over our first two years we had the chance to take many different classes from all aspects of media, Photography, Web Design, Graphic Design, Journalism and Public Relations. This was really great because it helped me figure out what areas I was interested in more than others and ultimately I chose PR.

Public Relations is kind of the jack of all trades. A Public Relations team will write content on behalf of an organization or person that will be sent out to the media. Public Relations professionals are the arch nemice of journalists because they conduct opposite jobs. Journalists seek the truth and PR people try to paint the picture to make the story look good for their clients best interest. A PR professional is actually the shadow of many famous and prominent people we all know and love like Justin Trudeau and many major sport leagues.

I didn’t begin this blog to tell you about Public Relations so I’ll tell you why I’m really here.

As you know we are in the midst of a pandemic. Life as we know it was flipped upside down and we are forced to adapt to this new normal. Schools and Universities are closed across the country, many Canadians have been laid off and are left living unknowing of what’s to come and how they will survive financially. My graduating year was cut short, our capstone project was cancelled and we are now entering a somewhat unstable job market.

Over the years I’ve gotten away from writing because life got in the way and as I grew up I cared a lot about what people thought of me. I’ve started blogs before but would quickly stop writing when someone would tell me it was a dumb idea or think it was weird that I liked to write.

During this quarantine I’ve worked a lot on my health, mentally and physically. I’ve thought about the things that were once really important to me and started integrating them back into my life. One of those things is writing.

Writing lets me escape from the world for a moment. The great things about writing is that you can write about anything and it allows you to connect with people across the globe. I love connecting with people and learning about them, the things they do, the things they’ve done. I want to learn about their story because we all have one.

So, you’re probably asking yourself, what is this blog going to be about?

This blog is going to be about my story. My day-to-day life, my interests, food, fitness, travel, the topics are endless.

If you want to join me on this journey, I would love for you to connect with me.

Love,

Grace
